Although the effects of Brexit are being felt across the UK, the European Patent Office (EPO) - where patent rights across Europe can be obtained - is not an EU institution, meaning that our attorneys here at Potter Clarkson, as well as the UK’s other 2,300 European qualified patent attorneys will be able to continue to represent their domestic and overseas clients there after Brexit.

Following a meeting between CIPA and the EPO on 25 January, Benoît Battistelli, President of the EPO has reinforced this message that Brexit will have no effect on UK patent work, even after we leave the European Union.
