We would like to pass our heartiest congratulations to our client, Notpla, who have just won the 2022 Earthshot Prize in the 'Build a Waste-Free World' category.
Notpla has developed an alternative to plastic made from seaweed and plants, which can be used to create a range of packaging materials.
Their innovation has an almost instant impact as it addresses one of the key causes of the climate crisis. Notpla’s packaging products biodegrade naturally in four-six weeks leaving no micro-plastics and no waste, unlike commonly used plastics such as PLA, helping to significantly reduce the amount of plastic ravaging our planet.
On hearing Notpla had won the hugely coveted Earthshot award, Co-Founder & CEO, Pierre Paslier, said:
14 million tonnes of plastic enter our oceans each year. We founded Notpla when we discovered the solution lies in our oceans too. We are already replacing plastic that plagues our seas and working with seaweed farms that give back to the environment and the local economy. Thank you for recognising us as we take our next big step and eliminate single-use plastic for good!”
We can’t wait to see how Notpla will use this invaluable global exposure and the £1m prize to grow, diversify and create even more opportunities to improve the environment.
Esmé Swindells, one of the patent attorneys at Potter Clarkson who work with Notpla, was equally excited when the news was revealed at the star-studded event held last Friday at the MGM Music Hall in Boston:
Everyone at Potter Clarkson is delighted to see the recognition that Notpla and LCM, (LCM is another of our clients who made the finals), have deservedly received through the Earthshot prize. They are both a pleasure to work with and their passion for helping the planet is infectious.”
