Potter Clarkson has announced the appointment of two significant hires to its expanding London operation. Peter Finnie and Fiona Law join the team as partners, with a remit to help build a dedicated team of patent attorneys and IP solicitors for the firm’s office in the city.
The appointments follow a significant period of growth for the firm, which has seen its staff numbers swell to more than 200 across its European offices.
Described in the 2020 edition of Chambers UK as “a top-quality attorney with a strong business mind”, Peter Finnie brings a wealth of expertise in supporting start-up companies from the initial funding stage through to a successful exit. He is recognised as a leading IP strategist in the IAM Strategy 300, with a proven approach to helping both SME and investor clients use IP as an effective commercial tool. Peter also brings further weight to Potter Clarkson’s credentials in EPO and UK IPO proceedings.
Recognised as one of Management Today’s ’35 under 35′ for her accomplishments in intellectual property, Fiona Law is a well-respected patent attorney with a reputation for helping clients to meet their commercial objectives. With particular expertise in helping innovative businesses to leverage their IP to secure funding, she has successfully secured in excess of £300 million for her clients in the past few years.
On joining the firm, Fiona Law said:
I’ve always known Potter Clarkson by its excellent and long-established reputation. During the past five years, the firm’s ambition to create new market opportunities has been exciting to watch. From the successful integration of the litigation and licensing team to cementing its position across the Nordic region and establishing a London base, it quickly became apparent that this was the place I needed to be and I am looking forward to being part of its continued evolution in the coming years.”
Peter Finnie added:
The management team of Potter Clarkson has a clear vision of the type of IP services clients need not just today, but also in the future. I have been inspired by the innovative steps they have taken in leading the market and responding to the needs of their clients.”
Commenting on Peter and Fiona’s arrival and the continued growth of the firm, managing partner, Steve Smith, said:
We have grown not only in numbers, but also in the range of services we offer, across borders and in turnover. To support this growth and the evolving needs of our ambitious clients, we need the very brightest minds and that is exactly what we have in Peter and Fiona. We know they will play a significant role in the next phase of our growth and we are delighted to have them join our team."
