The Creator Fund competition 2021

Universities are rich sources of bright, entrepreneurial minds ready to create their own start-up. Although they have ready access to a wealth of resources, students and academics often need external guidance to make a successful transition from academia to industry. Finding the right partner or mentor is crucial to a start-up taking the right first step in their journey.

Creator Fund is running their annual Creator Fund competition for student and academic founders to find the best UK university start-up. Participants will have an opportunity to pitch before leading VCs at the national final on 6 August 2021. Winners stand to win a range of prizes including £20k SEIS Creator Fund investment for the winner, non-dilutive cash prizes totalling £3,000 and 12-months free office space. As part of the prize pool, Potter Clarkson will be awarding our Kick-StartiP consultancy product as an Innovation Prize to the national finalist with outstanding consideration to IP strategy. Kick-StartiP is designed to help businesses understand, identify, develop and document their IP strategies to get the best possible start they want.

We will also be running a general IP clinic and one-to-one IP consultancy sessions for all national finalists from 26 to 30 July 2021.

In the coming weeks, we will be sharing our insights to help university founders create and develop their very own IP Blueprint for Growth. In the meantime check out our article on 6 key questions every investor should ask.
