A highly respected attorney, Ian’s practice includes drafting, prosecuting and litigating patents relating to chemical, pharmaceutical and medical device technologies.

Ian has considerable international experience, having been involved in patent prosecution and patent litigation in many countries around the world. Ian also has over 25 years’ experience in opposition and appeal proceedings before the Opposition Divisions and Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office, having personally handled more than 150 cases.

Prior to joining Potter Clarkson in 1997, Ian began his career in research for a large multinational chemical corporation, before moving into its patents department where he handled a wide range of chemical and engineering subject matters.

Ian became a partner in 1999.
