As a patent attorney with over 20 years’ experience, Andrew works with a variety of biological and chemical technology clients.

He advises on all aspects of patent matters, including the preparation of new patent applications, direct representation before the European and UK Patent Offices for the examination and granting of patents, co-ordination of multinational prosecution strategies, and freedom to operate exercises. Andrew also has a depth of experience and a highly successful track record in handling European opposition and appeal procedures. 

Andrew is valued by his clients for his friendly and open approach, eye for technical detail and commercial focus, with a commitment to going the extra mile and making his clients' IP work for them. 

He joined the patent profession in 1998 and worked in private practice before joining Potter Clarkson in 2000. Andrew became a partner in 2008.

 

Specialisms

Biotechnology, including genetic engineering, industrial microbiological processes, antibody-based technologies, therapeutic and other medical inventions, with a particular interest in cancer therapeutics, as well as plant-based biotechnology. 

Education

Andrew read molecular biology and biochemistry at Durham University and obtained a DPhil from Oxford University in the area of signal transduction and molecular biology, before moving into patent law.

Interests

When not in the office, Andrew can often be found falling off his local climbing walls, running, cycling, enjoying time with his wife and daughters, or recovering from any or all of the above with a glass of red wine.
