What was your first ever job?
In-house legal assistant.
How did you get involved and what first attracted you to your chosen field?
I enjoyed studying IP at university, but was most attracted to trade marks as it is a rewarding job. You often see the process of a trade mark filing from start to finish and come across some very interesting brands! The clientele can be a small start-up business or a large-scale internationally developed company and I very much enjoy the variation.
When did you join Potter Clarkson and why?
I joined Potter Clarkson in 2016 after completing my Legal Practice Course. I wanted to apply and practice my legal knowledge in a fast-paced and forward-thinking firm that offers full service intellectual property practices.
What is your area of speciality and why did you choose it?
I work in trade marks and like the idea of protecting and rewarding innovation. Intellectual Property is a niche industry but most certainly integral to all businesses.
What does a typical day in your role entail and what do you most enjoy about it/find most challenging?
I enjoy the varied nature of the work. In a typical working day, you may be dealing with cases relating to food and drink, vehicles, pharmaceuticals or cosmetics.
What advice would you give anyone looking to join Potter Clarkson?
With innovation being the forefront of the business, my advice would be to be prepared to enter a fast-paced and evolving industry, where two days are rarely the same.
